Canopy by Hilton to Make Thailand Debut in 2022

4 June 2019

176-room Canopy by Hilton Bangkok Sukhumvit, signed with Lucky Living Hospitality Co., Ltd., will bring a new hotel and all-day restaurant and bar to city’s prime district.

BANGKOK and MCLEAN, Va. – Hilton (NYSE: HLT), one of the world’s fastest-growing hospitality companies, today announced the milestone signing of a management agreement with Thailand-based real estate developer Lucky Living Hospitality Co., Ltd. to launch its lifestyle brand, Canopy by Hilton, in Thailand. The hospitality giant, which celebrated its 100th anniversary on 31 May, will manage the new-build 176-room Canopy by Hilton Bangkok Sukhumvit in the heart of Bangkok’s Sukhumvit district when it opens in 2022.

“We are committed to growing our brand presence across Asia Pacific, and bringing Canopy by Hilton into a top travel destination such as Bangkok will be a tremendous addition to our growing portfolio,” said Gary Steffen, global head, Canopy by Hilton. “The city has seen an exponential growth in tourist arrivals in recent years and we know, from interacting with our guests, that many are on the lookout for accommodations that allow them to experience the destination as a local, which is exactly what Canopy by Hilton will offer in the Sukhumvit neighborhood.”

As a lifestyle brand that embraces its locale, Canopy provides guests with authentic and unique local experiences. At check-in, guests are greeted with an open, welcoming space at Canopy Central and a locally sourced welcome gift.

Each property is designed as a natural extension of its neighborhood with connection to local art, food, drink and culture. Hotel team members are called Enthusiasts – Canopy’s local experts – who connect guests to the best of the surrounding area, offering recommendations for restaurants, shops, running paths and more.

The Neighborhood

Located in the city’s prime Sukhumvit district, Canopy by Hilton Bangkok Sukhumvit will be less than an hour’s drive from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport and a short walk from the Asok BTS Skytrain. Leisure guests will appreciate the close proximity to popular shopping malls such as The Emporium Bangkok, EmQuartier Shopping Mall and Terminal 21. The hotel is also within two kilometres from major embassies such as the U.S. and U.K. embassies, whilst Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre, the first purpose-built convention centre of Thailand, is just a 10-minute drive from the hotel. Canopy by Hilton Bangkok Sukhumvit will feature an all-day restaurant and a bar, as well as a fitness center and a swimming pool.

“Thailand is a key tourism market within South East Asia, and the vibrancy, accessibility and rising affluence of Bangkok makes it a great location for us to bring new brands into. We are delighted to be partnering with Lucky Living Hospitality Co., Ltd. to launch our Canopy by Hilton brand in the market and it is testament to the positive growth outlook we have in Thailand and the region,” said Guy Philips, senior vice president, development, Asia & Australasia, Hilton.

“We have been on the lookout for the right partner and the right brand to grow our business in Bangkok, and are delighted to be working with Hilton to bring Canopy by Hilton into this bustling city to deliver unique, curated experiences to domestic and international travelers. We are seeing strong growth in visitor arrivals to Bangkok year on year and there is such potential to cater to this rising demand with the entry of a refreshing brand such as Canopy by Hilton. We are confident the scale and commercial set-up of Hilton will place us in a good position to draw business and leisure guests to stay with us when Canopy by Hilton Bangkok Sukhumvit opens,” said Mr. Ishmit Bajaj, Managing Director of Lucky Living Hospitality Co., Ltd.

In Thailand, Hilton currently operates nine properties across four key brands – Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, Conrad Hotels & Resorts, Hilton Hotels & Resorts and DoubleTree by Hilton. Over the next three to five years, the company will open five additional hotels in the country, including two DoubleTree by Hilton properties: DoubleTree by Hilton Bangkok Ploenchit and DoubleTree by Hilton Phuket Banthai, which will both open later this year.

Canopy by Hilton Bangkok Sukhumvit will participate in the award-winning guest-loyalty program for Hilton’s 17 world-class brands. Hilton Honors members who book directly through preferred Hilton channels have access to instant benefits, including a flexible payment slider that allows members to choose nearly any combination of Points and money to book a stay, an exclusive member discount that can’t be found anywhere else, and free standard Wi-Fi.
